Rospotrebnadzor has strengthened sanitary and quarantine control over flights arriving from Egypt due to the spread of an unknown virus
An unknown disease is spreading among the locals of a village in the Qena province of Egypt.
This is written by the regional media.
It is noted that the main symptoms are high fever, bone pain and fatigue. So, for "studying information and taking samples from patients and environmental objects" medical teams were sent to the place.
Egypt's Deputy Health Minister Amr Qandil said specialists would spray pesticides twice a day in the village, mentioning that mosquito and sewage samples had been taken for analysis.
Due to the spread of an unknown virus, Rospotrebnadzor has strengthened sanitary and quarantine control over flights arriving from Egypt.
"The symptoms of the disease are similar to dengue fever," the Russian ministry said.
Rospotrebnadzor also interacts with the Egyptian side and international organizations to obtain additional information about the nature of the disease, the risks of its cross-border spread, preventive and anti-epidemic measures.
Dengue fever
Dengue fever is widespread in Southeast Asia, India, Africa, in the tropical and subtropical zone of North, Central and South America.
"The main carriers of the fever are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. In the absence of a carrier, a sick person does not pose an epidemiological danger," Rospotrebnadzor explained.
In addition, the department warned tourists planning a holiday in Egypt that in order to prevent infectious and parasitic diseases transmitted by insects, precautions must be observed:
wear clothes that cover the skin as much as possible;
use means that repel and destroy insects (repellents and insecticides);
In the premises, install nets on windows and doors.
There is no "unknown" Egyptian disease in Russia, but dengue fever occurs, Rospotrebnadzor stated. Thus, last year 29 cases of the disease were detected.
Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said there was no reason to worry about an unknown illness among the villagers.
According to him, the authorities have no intention of introducing quarantine in the village.
"In a village with a population of 4.2 thousand, 150-200 people fell ill," he said.
In addition, water samples were normal, and there were no dengue mosquitoes, Tawadros said.
Bubonic plague confirmed on border with China
Earlier, the Egyptian media reported about an unknown disease among the inhabitants of a village in the province of Qena, the country's Ministry of Health announced that it had sent medical teams to the site to take samples from the sick and environmental objects.
In the village of El Alikat, about 200 people were reported to have contracted an unknown disease, the symptoms of which are similar to colds, flu, gastroenteritis and fever.
Speculation appeared in the media that what happened could be an outbreak of dengue fever.
The press service of Rospotrebnadzor said that the agency has stepped up sanitary and quarantine control over flights arriving from Egypt due to cases of an unknown disease in the province of Qena south of Cairo, the symptoms of which are similar to dengue fever.
