Detained İmamoğlu officially nominated for Turkish presidency

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in custody, has been nominated as the presidential candidate by the opposition Republican People's Party.
According to the leader of the Republican People's Party, Özgür Özel, more than 14 million 850 thousand people voted for Ekrem İmamoğlu. At the same time, protests against his arrest continue in Istanbul and other cities. On March 23, about half a million people took to the streets to support the mayor. The political crisis has also had a negative impact on the country's economy, with the Istanbul Stock Exchange index falling by more than 16 percent.

❗️We remind you that on March 23, an Istanbul court decided to detain Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. He is accused of corruption and will be held in prison until the end of the trial. The decision sparked protests that began on March 19, the day Imamoglu was arrested. Police have arrested more than 300 protesters.
