Uzbekistan Embassy to Open in Georgia; Park to be Named After Alisher Navoi

As part of Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Georgia, negotiations were held with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in both narrow and expanded formats. The parties discussed further developing cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-transit, tourism, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the Georgian side for the decision to name a park in Tbilisi after the great poet Alisher Navoi. It was decided to prepare a joint "roadmap" to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached during the negotiations.

During the talks, it was noted that the volume of mutual trade turnover reached $270 million last year, and a goal was set to raise this figure to $1 billion in the coming years. It was announced that a joint "roadmap" on trade would be developed to achieve this.

Agreements were also reached regarding the efficient use of the ports of Poti and Batumi, the establishment of a logistics hub and a showroom for Uzbek products in Georgia, and the exploration of possibilities to link the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway with the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. Agreements were also reached on implementing new projects in areas such as industrial cooperation, agriculture, energy, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and tourism. A proposal was also put forward to establish a joint investment fund to finance these projects. Furthermore, a decision was made to open an Embassy of Uzbekistan in Georgia.
