December 15th is marked as World Turkic Languages ​​Day

At the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, the organization's member states unanimously approved the initiative to introduce the World Day of Turkic Languages.
The initiative was put forward by Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and supported by 26 countries.
The date of December 15 was not chosen by chance - in 1893, the Danish linguist Wilhelm Thomsen announced that he had read the alphabet of the Orkhon inscriptions, one of the oldest written sources. This date reminds of the ancient roots and rich cultural heritage of the Turkic languages.
The new holiday is intended to promote the cultural, historical and scientific significance of the Turkic language family, as well as to widely publicize their contribution to the development of humanity. Exhibitions, lectures, literary evenings and cultural performances are planned as part of the holiday.
