Death penalty sought for former South Korean president
South Korea's special prosecutor's office has requested the death penalty for former President Yun Seok-yol in the 2024 martial law case.
The prosecutor's office has appealed to the Seoul High Court, arguing that the previous life sentence was insufficient.
Yun Seok-yol is on trial on charges of inciting rebellion by declaring martial law, abuse of power and other charges. Under South Korean law, the death penalty or life imprisonment is applicable for leading a rebellion.
