Deadly flooding in Vietnam

Continuous heavy rains and flooding that have been ongoing since the weekend in central Vietnam have claimed the lives of more than 40 people. 

According to reports, the floods have submerged over 52,000 homes and left half a million households and businesses without electricity. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated from the affected areas.

According to the state news agency Tuoi Tre, tens of thousands of houses in Dak Lak province — the country’s largest coffee-producing region — have been flooded.
Landslides have damaged major roads and highways, prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency in the province.

AFP reports that a section of the Mimoza Pass — the main access route to the popular tourist city of Da Lat — collapsed into a ravine. Traffic has been completely halted after a bus narrowly avoided falling into the gap.
