DARA Becomes Bulgaria’s National Hero

The winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2026, DARA, received a grand welcome in Bulgaria. After bringing the country its first-ever Eurovision victory, the singer is now being recognized not only as a successful artist, but also as a national symbol.

Since returning from Vienna, 27-year-old Darina Yotova has been celebrated across the country. At Vasil Levski Airport, hundreds of fans greeted her with Bulgarian flags, posters, and traditional kukeri costumes. These folkloric characters served as inspiration for her winning song, Bangaranga.

Later, a massive celebration took place at Alexander I Square in central Sofia, attended by thousands of people. The event was organized by the city administration and Bulgarian National Television. Sofia mayor Vasil Terziev presented the singer with the symbolic keys to the city. DARA then walked a 60-meter red carpet and performed “Bangaranga” live for the crowd.

“My dream has always been to unite people. Thank you for making that dream come true,” the singer said during the celebration.

Official honors for the artist are still continuing. Varna mayor Blagomir Kotsev proposed awarding DARA the title of honorary citizen for her contribution to Bulgarian music and the country’s international image. At the same time, Sofia City Council has also put forward an initiative to specially honor the singer.

In addition, the administration of Avren Municipality offered to gift the artist a plot of land in the village of Bliznatsi, which is connected to her family roots.

According to reports, “Bangaranga” won the Eurovision final by a margin of 173 points over its closest competitor, breaking a record that had stood since 2009. Bulgaria has already begun preparations to host Eurovision Song Contest 2027 for the first time in its history.
