Due to heavy rainfall in Dagestan, the Gezhukh dam burst on April 5, flooding several areas. The natural disaster damaged homes, roads and power lines, and cut off electricity in about 20 districts. The worst-hit areas include Makhachkala, Darband and other districts. About 3,800 houses were damaged in Makhachkala. Four people died in the incident, including a 5-year-old girl whose body was found after being swept away by the current. More than 4,000 residents were evacuated due to the emergency.
