Court Delivers Verdict in Aleksandra Mitroshina Case

A court has sentenced blogger Aleksandra Mitroshina to three years of suspended imprisonment and imposed a fine of 900,000 rubles. According to reports, the court also lifted the house arrest restrictions that had previously been imposed on her. In addition, property valued at more than 115 million rubles will be confiscated by the state.

Mitroshina has partially admitted guilt. She previously stated that she had fully repaid her tax debt before criminal proceedings were initiated against her.

In an interview, she said:

“I paid my debt to the Russian Federation without dispute and without trying to avoid it. But it turns out that Russian law does not apply to me in the same way.”

At the same time, she acknowledged that part of the money used to purchase an apartment in Moscow could have come from funds saved through unpaid taxes.

Mitroshina was detained in Sochi on March 7. Several days later, she was brought before a court. Following the hearing, investigators placed her under house arrest and prohibited her from using a telephone or other means of communication.
