Construction workers in Belgium found gold inside a wall

Construction workers carrying out sewage work near the Belgian city of Dendermonde discovered a gold hoard worth approximately 9 million euros inside the wall of an old building's basement.
The treasure was accidentally discovered by an 18-year-old student working at the site during summer break. Initially, he mistook the shiny coins for ordinary currency. Subsequently, 49 gold bars and thousands of coins were found within the wall.
Some of the bars bore markings dating from 1957 to 1961. The building previously belonged to the Van Assche family, local beer producers; consequently, it is speculated that the treasure may be linked to this family.
The discovered gold has been handed over to the police. Authorities are currently working to determine the origin of the hoard and its rightful owner.
