Construction of the Tashkent–Samarkand toll road has officially begun

On July 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new highway connecting Tashkent and Samarkand.

As part of the project, valued at approximately $2.2 billion, a 282-kilometer, six-lane modern motorway will be built. The route will include 92 bridges, 28 overpasses, and 60 tunnel-type crossings.

Once the new road becomes operational, travel time between Tashkent and Samarkand will be reduced from 5 hours to 2.5 hours. The motorway will be capable of handling 60,000–80,000 vehicles per day.

The project is expected to boost economic activity in Tashkent City, as well as the Syrdarya, Jizzakh, and Samarkand regions, create new jobs, and reduce freight transportation costs. During construction, logistics centers, industrial facilities, and service infrastructure will also be developed.
