Conjoined twins successfully separated in Tashkent region

In a hospital in the Tashkent region, conjoined twins born prematurely — at 33–34 weeks of pregnancy — were successfully separated through a rare surgical operation.

According to the Ministry of Health, the operation lasted five hours and was performed by a team of skilled doctors led by Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev, Doctor of Medical Sciences and head of the Neonatal Surgery Center at the Republican Perinatal Center.

Minister Asilbek Khudayarov personally visited the newborns and described the surgery as “evidence that Uzbekistan’s medicine has reached a new stage of development.”

He emphasized that such complex operations are rarely performed even in developed countries.

The medical team involved in separating the twins was awarded the “Excellence in Healthcare of the Republic of Uzbekistan” badge of honor.
The babies and their mother have since been discharged from the hospital and returned home safely.
