☢️ Compensation will be paid in the event of a nuclear accident in Uzbekistan

 

On May 27, the Oliy Majlis discussed and approved the draft law “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage (Vienna, May 21, 1963)” and approved by the deputies.

‼️ Accession to the Convention creates the following opportunities:

— establishing a liability regime for damage caused as a result of incidents at civilian nuclear facilities, the procedure, terms and principles for compensation for damage;

— establishing clear obligations of the operator of nuclear facilities and creating reliable financial guarantees for compensation for possible damage;

— increasing confidence in the national nuclear safety system, strengthening international cooperation and ensuring compliance with norms and standards in the field of nuclear safety.

This nuclear liability regime ensures compensation for the people of Uzbekistan in the event of a nuclear accident.

The bill was adopted by the deputies at the session and sent to the Senate.
