Chinese woman demands $35,000 from ex-husband for housework

A Chinese woman named Hu has demanded $35,000 in compensation from her ex-husband, Wang, after 13 years of marriage. The woman initially demanded $7,000 from her ex-husband for all the housework he had done over the years. However, the court, taking into account her situation, set the amount of the payment at $35,000. According to the Chinese Civil Code, if one of the parties fails to fulfill these obligations, the other party has the right to demand compensation for housework. The woman quit her job to get married and devoted all her time to raising her daughter and taking care of the housework. Her husband, on the other hand, did not do any housework at all. Therefore, the woman was considered fully entitled to this compensation.
The man, who was surprised and dissatisfied with this situation, was told by the court that marriage is a double labor.
