China to deploy humanoid robots on border with Vietnam

Chinese company UBTech Robotics has signed a 264 million yuan (about $37 million) contract to install humanoid Walker S2 robots at checkpoints in the Guangxi Autonomous Region, which borders Vietnam.
Walker S2 is the world's first humanoid robot that can independently replace its battery in three minutes. It is 162 cm tall, weighs 43 kg and is equipped with a battery system that can work for 2-4 hours. As part of the project, the robots will serve at border checkpoints in the city of Fanchengan: they will guide tourists, regulate the flow, patrol and perform logistics tasks. UBTech plans to deliver 500 robots by the end of the year, increase production tenfold next year and produce 10,000 robots per year by 2027.
In China, robotics is being rapidly introduced in a wide range of fields: medicine, elderly care, public security, urban sanitation and logistics. Border control is becoming one of the new directions based on artificial intelligence.
