China sentences former official to death for bribery

 

A court in China sentenced former official Dai Daojin to death on June 24 for bribery. However, the sentence was postponed for two years.

Dai Daojin is a former vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference who used his official position to illegally obtain more than 107 million yuan (more than $15 million) in financial wealth for himself and his relatives.

The court deprived him of political rights for life, confiscated his property, and ordered him to return the illegal wealth to the state treasury.
