Hundreds of flights and trains were canceled in Beijing and northern China on Saturday as winds gusted to 150 km/h. The storm was the strongest in 50 years. Residents were advised to stay indoors on Friday. Some media outlets warned that people weighing less than 50 kg could be blown away by the wind.
Emergency services reported dozens of injuries and extensive damage. Experts said the storm was comparable in strength to a typhoon.
