China invested $2.9 billion in the Tajik economy in 2012-2022.
In particular, about $2.2 billion were direct investments, and over $700 million were other investments (loans and grants - ed.).
Meanwhile, Russia, which is the main trade and economic partner of Tajikistan, received funds in the amount of about $992 million over this period.
In the structure of Russian capital, 40% ($397 million) are direct investments, 1.6% (about $16 million) are portfolio investments (purchase of securities), and 58% ($575 million) are other investments.
The State Investment Committee noted that Chinese and Russian investments received during this period were directed mainly to such sectors of the Tajik economy as mining, financial intermediation, construction, communications and others.
It should be noted that Chinese investors started investing in the Tajik economy only in the second half of the 2000s: it only took them 10 years to catch up and overtake the country's main investor, Russia.
