The Internet Information Administration of the People's Republic of China (CAC) has drafted a law that would ban the free use of smartphones by all minors in the country. Restrictions vary by age, including minors being restricted from spending more than forty minutes a day on a mobile device. According to official information, this initiative is motivated by China's concern for the new generation. According to the authorities, the unsupervised use of mobile devices can seriously damage the mental and physical development of children. For this reason, it was proposed to set restrictions on the use of smartphones for minors in China as follows: Up to 8 years old - 40 minutes a day; 8-15 years old - one hour a day; 16-18 years old - two hours a day. And every minor, regardless of age, cannot use mobile devices from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Also, children's mobile devices should be equipped with special software for parents to remotely control and limit unnecessary content. However, children under the age of three may exceptionally violate the above restrictions in order to listen to age-appropriate music and other types of audio content, and children over the age of 12 may use educational materials. The draft law is still widely discussed, and it is not known how it will be implemented.
