Chemical Industry Growth Is Not Reaching Expected Levels – President

A videoconference meeting dedicated to the development of the chemical industry was held under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

During the meeting, it was noted that significant growth has been observed in the country's economy and industrial sectors in recent years, with the production of 3,000 new types of products being launched. In particular, $8.3 billion in investments has been attracted to the chemical industry, and 87 major projects have been put into operation. As a result, more than 60 new high value-added products, including PVC, green hydrogen, foamed polypropylene, and BOPP film, have begun to be produced.

Despite these achievements, several problems in the sector were criticized. Over the past nine years, while the country's industrial sector has grown by an average of 6.3 percent, growth in the chemical industry has not even reached 3 percent. Imports of chemical products have risen to $4.5 billion annually, while domestic production is unable to meet even 60 percent of internal demand.

The activities of JSC "Uzkimyosanoat" were also criticized. It was emphasized that efforts to effectively work with more than 5,000 enterprises in the system and to study their problems and proposals remain insufficient.

The President announced his decision to personally meet with representatives of chemical industry enterprises in order to discuss these issues in detail.
