A proposal has been made in Uzbekistan to increase fines for passengers who fail to pay bus fares.
Under the proposal, a fine of 220,000 soums could be imposed for a first offense, while repeat offenders could face fines of up to 440,000 soums.
Currently, the fine for traveling on a bus without a ticket is 41,200 soums.
Starting September 1, 2026, passengers will be required to pay the fare immediately upon boarding the bus. Those who fail to pay will be recorded as passengers without tickets and fined.
According to reports, more than 82,000 passengers in Tashkent were found to have evaded fares during the first seven months of 2026.
