Bus accident in Navoi: driver sentenced to 10 years

On January 5, 2026, a bus traveling on the Zarafshon-Navoi route in Navoi region veered off the road and overturned. There were 47 passengers on the bus. As a result of the accident, 3 people (one of whom was a minor) died on the spot, and 21 passengers were injured.
The driver pleaded guilty in court and said that he was distracted while driving while drinking water. According to his testimony, while looking for the lid of the water tank, he turned the steering wheel uncontrollably, after which the bus veered off the road and overturned.
By a court verdict on June 11, the driver was found guilty under Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of the rules for the movement or safety of vehicles, resulting in the death of people) and sentenced to 10 years in prison and deprived of the right to drive for 3 years.
