BTS’s “ARIRANG” album sets a record in Spotify history
BTS have made a powerful comeback with their highly anticipated album “ARIRANG”. Released on March 20, the project immediately dominated the global music scene and set a new record on Spotify, becoming the most-streamed K-pop album in a single day in the platform’s history.
Within the first 24 hours, BTS secured multiple top positions on Spotify’s global chart. The title track “SWIM” debuted at No.1, followed by “Body to Body” at No.2. Notably, “Body to Body” blends modern pop with traditional Korean musical elements, which has been widely praised by listeners. Other tracks such as “Hooligan”, “FYA”, and “Aliens” also entered the global top 10, reinforcing the album’s massive impact.
On iTunes, “SWIM” reached No.1 in over 90 countries, while the album topped charts in 88 regions worldwide. In South Korea, the release instantly climbed to the top of major platforms like Melon and Bugs. Impressively, all 14 tracks from the album entered the Melon Top 100 simultaneously — a rare achievement.
Physical sales were equally remarkable. According to Hanteo Chart, nearly 3.98 million copies were sold on the first day alone, surpassing the first-week sales of BTS’s previous album “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7” (3.37 million). This once again highlights the group’s extraordinary commercial power.
Industry analysts predict that “ARIRANG” will debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200, potentially marking one of the biggest album launches of the year.
On March 21, just a day after the release, BTS held a large-scale concert titled BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. The event attracted around 104,000 attendees and was streamed live on Netflix across 190 countries, showcasing the group’s global reach.
“ARIRANG” is BTS’s first full-length album since all members completed their military service. The album features 14 tracks, combining traditional Korean influences with modern pop, hip-hop, and electronic sounds, making it both a commercial and artistic milestone.
Following the release, BTS are expected to perform in New York before embarking on a global tour.
