Bruce Willis Has Nearly Lost the Ability to Speak

Bruce Willis’s wife, Emma Heming-Willis, spoke about the legendary actor’s health in the Conversations With Cam podcast. He is living with frontotemporal dementia, which was diagnosed in early 2023.

According to Emma, the 69-year-old actor is unaware of his diagnosis. This is due to a rare neurological condition called anosognosia, in which a person is unable to recognize their own illness. It is as if the brain blocks this information, preventing an understanding of the scale of the changes taking place.

“People may mistake this for denial, but it is actually a feature of the disease. Bruce never connected the symptoms into one clear picture, and I’m genuinely glad that he doesn’t know about his diagnosis,” Emma said.

Despite the progression of the disease, Willis remains surrounded by love and care from his family. His speech has been almost completely lost, but he has found other ways to communicate with loved ones. The actor uses gestures, touch, and facial expressions. Emma notes that he still recognizes his children, grandchildren, and her.

Bruce Willis began his acting career with small roles in television and theater. His major breakthrough came in 1985 when he landed the lead role in the TV series Moonlighting, earning him both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Global fame followed with his role as John McClane. Willis successfully worked across various genres, from thrillers like The Sixth Sense to science-fiction films such as The Fifth Element and 12 Monkeys.
