Brazilian prosecutors sue BYD

Brazilian labor prosecutors have sued Chinese automaker BYD and two of its contractors, JinJiang and Tecmonta, for creating “slave-like” conditions for workers. The lawsuit seeks $45 million in moral damages and compensation for workers.
220 Chinese workers were found to have been illegally imported, worked in harsh conditions, and were victims of human trafficking. After negotiations failed, the case was taken to court. BYD denied the charges, saying it respects the law and is cooperating with the court.
