Boat carrying migrants capsized in Yemen

According to the UN International Organization for Migration, at dawn on 3 August 2025, a boat carrying African immigrants capsized in the Gulf of Adan near Abyan province, Yemen.
The boat had a total of 154 Ethiopian immigrants. At least 68 people were killed in the crash, 54 of them in Khanfar district and the rest were transported to the hospital morgue in Zinjibar city. Only 12 survived, while 74 were missing. Search and rescue services in Yemen have initiated a large-scale operation. Many bodies are being found scattered on the shore.
Yemen, although itself in the whirlwind of war, remains a major transit route for thousands of immigrants coming from Africa and East Africa. More than 60,000 immigrants have arrived in Yemen since early 2025.
