Rashida Talib, a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, criticized the position of President Joe Biden on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Israel, which is bombing Gaza in response to the Hamas attack, sent a request to UN representatives to evacuate about 1.1 million people from the territory within 24 hours. The international organization assessed this as an impossible demand.
According to Rashida Talib, representative of the Democratic Party, Israel is punishing thousands of people living in Gaza for the actions of Hamas. The Biden administration, while unilaterally supporting Israel, does not care about the fate of ordinary Palestinians who are under the rain of bombs.
"More than a million people in the Gaza Strip (half of them children) have been ordered to leave within 24 hours, but they have nowhere to go. The collective punishment of Palestinian civilians is a war crime... But President Biden has not shown the slightest sympathy for the millions of Palestinian civilians who have been subjected to merciless airstrikes in Gaza and who are being targeted by land attacks," said Rashida Talib, the only representative of Palestinian descent in Congress.
The woman politician called for an immediate ceasefire and to save the lives of all civilians, regardless of religion and nationality.
"Our government should sympathize with all representatives of the civilian population. I firmly believe that the vast majority of Americans want an end to the bloodshed and violence. Military crimes cannot be answered with military crimes," says R. Talib.
According to the deputy, in the current situation, the interests of Muslims and Arabs in America cannot be fully protected by the government. He also emphasized the need to help US citizens whose relatives remained in Gaza.
Rashida Talib says that the Israeli government is conducting an apartheid policy in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million people, has been under siege since 2007.
On October 8, Israel cut off electricity and fuel supplies to the area following heightened tensions with Hamas. On October 9, the Minister of Defense of the Jewish State, Yoav Galant, announced that Gaza will be completely besieged, and food and water will not be delivered to the territory.
While calling on the warring parties to respect international law, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the complete siege of Gaza.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, stated that depriving the people of Gaza of water, food and electricity is against international law.
The world press reported that all the hospitals in the region were full, and there was no room left in the morgues.
