Bank loans to the population have increased at a record rate

Bank loans to the population in Uzbekistan have been growing rapidly in recent years. According to the Central Bank, as of May 1, 2026, the total debt of the population from banks reached 230.8 trillion soums. This is 21.2%, or 40.3 trillion soums, more than last year.
The volume of total loans amounted to 629 trillion soums, most of which were issued to the population and entrepreneurs. The bulk of loans to the population fell on mortgage loans - 83.9 trillion soums. Also, microloans amounted to 50.1 trillion soums, microcredits - 44.3 trillion soums, and car loans - 39.6 trillion soums. Educational loans amounted to 6.9 trillion soums, which remained almost unchanged.
The largest amount of loans by region falls on the city of Tashkent - 290 trillion soums. This is almost half of the total loans in the country. In general, over the past 6 years, bank loans to the population have increased by more than 5 times.
