A representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted that Baku has never used force against the civilian population.
BAKU, September 15 – Sputnik. The statements of the US Assistant Secretary of State do not reflect the situation in the region and correspond to the position of Yerevan, which encourages separatism in Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizadeh.
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim said yesterday that the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not over, the Lachin road is “blocked”, and “a military attack on the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh” is unacceptable.
“The statements by Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, which generally do not reflect the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, are simply disappointing,” Hajizadeh said.
According to him, the reference to the reflection in the peace treaty of the rights and security of the “Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh” in relation to the Armenians living in Karabakh contradicts the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and also includes terminology that Yerevan purposefully uses to encourage separatism in Azerbaijani territories.
"At the same time, this reference is disrespectful to the rights of Azerbaijanis who were expelled from this region as a result of the Armenian policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide. We would like to remind the American side that the Armenians currently living in the Karabakh region do not represent all segments population of this region,” said a representative of the republic’s foreign ministry.
Commenting on the accusations of a “military attack,” Hajizade especially noted that Azerbaijan has never used force against the civilian population; on the contrary, it has taken measures to reintegrate the Armenian residents of Karabakh into Azerbaijani society, despite the obstacles imposed by Armenia.
“The reintegration process is an internal issue of our country, and interference in our internal affairs is unacceptable,” said a representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
