Bahodir Kurbanov: There Will Be No Nepotism in Football

Nepotism and favoritism will no longer be tolerated in Uzbek football. This was stated by the Chairman of the State Security Service, General-Colonel Bahodir Kurbanov, on January 30 in Tashkent during the regular reporting and election congress of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA).

At the end of the meeting, Bahodir Kurbanov was unanimously re-elected by the delegates as President of the UFA.

During the congress, the issue of launching a “National Football Electronic Platform” was discussed. According to Kurbanov, the lack of a unified database of football players previously prevented clubs from fully benefiting from legal and economic mechanisms such as training compensation fees. Under the new system, every child entering a football academy, along with their coach, will be registered electronically. The player’s development indicators will be recorded and regularly monitored. It was also noted that clubs will gain access to FIFA transfer compensation mechanisms for players registered on the platform.

In addition, Bahodir Kurbanov emphasized the importance of refereeing, noting that a Football Referees Academy has been established to enhance fairness and transparency in matches. Plans to form and expand a team of female referees were also included on the agenda.

The report acknowledged that transparency in youth selection remains insufficient and that cases of favoritism and regional bias still occur. As a solution, it was proposed to develop a new selection system based on scientific methods, monitor the growth of talented youth through digital platforms, and introduce transparent selection processes involving specialists from various regions.
