Azerbaijan is a full member of the Central Asian Consultative Meetings

The seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia has begun in Tashkent. At it, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that a principled decision had been made among the states to admit Azerbaijan as a full member of this format. It was stated that this decision was in line with the common history, closeness and interests of cooperation that bind the countries of the region.

The initiative for the consultative meetings was put forward in 2017, and the first meeting was held in Astana in 2018. This year, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is participating in this meeting as an honorary guest for the third time.

In an interview with UzA before this event, Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan and the countries of Central Asia are building a common historical-cultural, geographical and geopolitical space, the strategic importance of which is growing. He also noted that the Caspian Sea is “not a dividing factor, but a unifying factor” for the region.
