The Azerbaijani military has started local anti-terror operations in the territory of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. This was announced in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.
"Ensure the provisions of the tripartite declaration, suppress large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region, disarm and withdraw the Armenian armed forces from our territories, neutralize their military infrastructure, ensure the safety of civilians returning to the liberated areas, civil servants participating in construction and reconstruction works, and our military , and in order to restore the constitutional system of Azerbaijan, local anti-terrorist measures have been launched in the region," the statement reads.
It is noted that on the night of September 19, two Azerbaijanis were killed by a mine planted by members of illegal armed groups in Karabakh.
After that, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan went to the scene of the incident in a KamAZ car. However, when they were passing through Khojavand district, a mine planted by an Armenian saboteur group exploded in a newly built tunnel in the village of Tagavard. As a result, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Asim Jamolzoda, Ramil Shirinov, Seymur Mahmudov and Khazar Zamanov were killed. Five more people were injured and taken to the hospital.
As part of the operation launched after these terrorist attacks, the Ministry of Defense reported that the Azerbaijani military "using high-precision weapons on the front line and in depth, identified the positions of the units of the Armed Forces of Armenia, their long-range firing points, as well as combat vehicles." and renders military facilities unusable."
Civil facilities and civilians will not be targeted, the statement said.
