Australia bans children under 16 from accessing social media

Starting December 10, anyone under the age of 16 in Australia will not be able to open an account on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, X (Twitter), YouTube, Reddit, Discord, Kick and other social media platforms. Platforms must block account creation for these users and limit existing accounts. The goal is to protect the mental health, well-being and online safety of adolescents. The law is the first of its kind in the world and could serve as a model for other countries.
