Attempts to smuggle gold and foreign currency using children intercepted at border checkpoint

Customs officers at the "Navoiy" border customs checkpoint in Uzbekistan's Tashkent Region uncovered two separate attempts to smuggle gold and foreign currency by using children.

In the first case, a woman concealed two gold bars weighing nearly 200 grams inside her infant's diaper. Customs officers also found 70 grams of undeclared gold jewelry in her possession. The total value of the gold items was estimated at 450 million soums.

In the second case, a citizen of a neighboring country attempted to take US$40,000 across the border by hiding the cash under the clothing of his 14-year-old daughter. The attempt was detected and stopped by customs officials.

Customs authorities are currently conducting investigations into both incidents.
