The two countries want to increase the volume of mutual trade and will create the necessary conditions for this.
Kyrgyzstan and China are planning to open a third checkpoint at the joint border (at the Bedel Pass), Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev said, commenting on the results of the President's state visit to China.
The Bedel Pass is located on the border of the Issyk-Kul region and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
According to Kulubaev, the parties agreed to intensify trade and economic relations, it is planned to increase the capacity of the existing Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints. China is interested in this, as a lot of cargo is idle at the border.
“We also agreed to open the Bedel Pass in the future: we will build a checkpoint there and a road from China to Kyrgyzstan. This is an expansion of transport and logistics opportunities,” Kulubaev said.
He noted that last year the bilateral trade turnover amounted to $9 billion, according to the Kyrgyz side, and $15 billion, according to the PRC. The difference is due to differences in the calculation methods.
