Ancient Temple and Warrior Armor Fragments Discovered in Tashkent Region

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a 5th–8th century temple and metal fragments of a warrior’s armor at the Qanqa archaeological site in Tashkent region.

The excavation was carried out by researchers from the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, who are now preparing the site to become an “Open-Air Museum.”

Experts say the findings provide valuable insight into the military culture and religious practices of early Turkic peoples. The metallic armor pieces, in particular, demonstrate advanced metallurgical craftsmanship of that era.

Artifacts such as clay bricks, decorated ceramics, and ritual items found within the temple suggest that Qanqa served as a major religious and cultural center in Central Asia during the early medieval period.

Currently, restoration work is underway, and authorities plan to open the site to tourists as a historical complex in the near future.

Earlier, researchers in Uzbekistan uncovered 75-million-year-old dinosaur fossils in Karakalpakstan and Neolithic rock carvings in the Northern Nurata Mountains.
