✈️ An Expensive Joke: Elderly Passenger Removed from Flight

On September 3, a flight from Almaty to Aktau was delayed for two hours because of a joke made by an elderly passenger.

While boarding the plane, a flight attendant was unable to place a heavy bag in the overhead compartment, so the elderly passenger helped her. He then joked about the weight of the bag and said in Kazakh: “Is there lead or a bomb in this bag?”

The passenger was subsequently removed from the flight, and both he and his luggage were searched. No explosives or prohibited items were found during the inspection.

There was no evacuation at the airport, but the flight was delayed for two hours. The passenger was held accountable for minor disorderly conduct, and the case will be sent to court.

Officials urged passengers not to make statements at airports or on aircraft that could be perceived as a security threat, even if made as a joke.
