A meeting was held in Moscow between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, during which the newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin was introduced to the Turkmen side.
Lavrov expressed confidence that the work of Ivan Volynkin as Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan would give a new positive impetus to the development of strategic relations between the countries.
Niyazliev congratulated his colleague on his appointment and wished him success in his new place of diplomatic service, the Turkmen diplomatic mission in Russia reports.
The diplomats also discussed issues of further development of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation, both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of international organizations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Ivan Volynkin as Russia's ambassador to Turkmenistan in early April, relieving Alexander Blokhin of that post.
Volynkin was born in 1959 in Moscow. In 1981 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs (now MGIMO MDI of Russia) and worked in the Russian embassies in Yugoslavia, the USA, Georgia, Macedonia and Armenia.
