Akmal Shukurov Returned to Prison

Earlier, it was reported that Akmal Shukurov — who had struck a man once outside a hotel in Tashkent, causing him to fall into a coma — was released from prison after an appellate court replaced his sentence of 8 years and 1 month of imprisonment with restriction of liberty.

However, the Tashkent City Prosecutor’s Office filed a protest and requested the appellate decision to be overturned. As a result, by a ruling of the cassation court, Shukurov was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment. Taking into account the time already served, he has 5 years, 3 months, and 12 days remaining to serve.

Shukurov was sentenced under Article 168, Part 4, Clause “a” to 3 years of corrective labor, as well as under Article 104, Part 2, Clause “e” and Article 277, Part 3, Clause “g”.
It was announced that a protest or appeal against the court’s ruling may be filed with the Supreme Court.
