Airphibian — the first car that could drive and fly

Developed in California in the 1950s, Airphibian is considered one of the world’s first truly successful flying cars. This innovative vehicle was capable of driving on regular roads and transforming into an aircraft within minutes, a concept far ahead of its time.

One of Airphibian’s most remarkable achievements is that it became the first flying car to receive official civil aviation certification. Its detachable wings and tail section could be left at an airfield after landing, allowing the vehicle to continue its journey on public roads as a conventional car.

Technically, Airphibian featured a lightweight aluminum structure, relatively simple controls, and an engine powerful enough for short flights. It was designed primarily for private pilots and business users, offering a revolutionary vision of personal transportation.
