Uzbekistan may harvest a record crop of apricots in 2023. This was reported by the analytical platform EastFruit.
It is noted that this, in turn, will help increase the volume of apricot exports and return Uzbekistan to the ranks of the world leaders in this indicator.
Currently, the price of apricots in the country is at a historically low level. A lower figure was recorded in 2020, when exports were temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to experts, in the first two months of the season, Uzbekistan managed to repeat the record for the export of apricots and sold about 40,000 tons of products to foreign markets. This is 5.4 times more than the same period last year.
Also, it is estimated that Uzbekistan can sell at least 65-70 thousand tons of apricots to foreign markets during the season. Under certain conditions, the export volume may even exceed 75,000 tons.
It is noted that the volume of Spanish apricot exports in 2023 will not exceed 60,000 tons. Italy's capacity can be about 45,000 tons. Turkey's export of fresh apricots may exceed 100,000 tons for the first time. This country will have the opportunity to buy a large amount of cheap dried apricots from the countries of Central Asia, especially from Uzbekistan. Therefore, an important part of product export is fresh apricots.
The fact that Uzbekistan ranks second in the ranking of fresh apricot exports in the world market at the end of the season is primarily due to the fact that the apricot harvest in Italy and Spain in 2023 is much less than expected and is below the average of recent years. related to
"At the same time, Uzbekistan exported more apricots than Italy. "Although the new apricot season in Italy lasts longer than in Uzbekistan," the report says.
The role of Uzbekistan in the export of apricots
In 2017, Uzbekistan occupied one of the top 6 places. This year, Uzbekistan reduced the volume of apricot exports from 50,000 tons to approximately 23,000 tons. Spain, Turkey, France, Italy and Greece took the places before Uzbekistan. In 2016, Uzbekistan ranked second after Spain in terms of apricot exports.
In 2018, Uzbekistan was among the top three countries in the world in terms of apricot export. In 2021, due to the high price of apricots in the domestic market and relatively cheap prices in neighboring Tajikistan, this fruit was imported from the neighboring country. Thus, Uzbekistan, considered one of the world leaders in the export of apricots, has now become its importer.
