The United Nations Office for the Coordination of humanitarian aid in Afghanistan (OCHA) reports that the country ranks first in the world in maternal and child deaths.
The organization reported that 699 out of every 100,000 babies died in Afghanistan, and noted that it was the highest number of infant deaths worldwide.
The OCHA said in a statement that the number increased after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.
Earlier it was reported that the World Food organization was cutting its aid to Afghanistan due to lack of funds. Financial problems caused by the World Food Program reported that only one in five underprivileged Afghans could provide assistance.
Experts say that hunger forces the Afghan population to look for alternative ways to find money and food, the fastest and easiest of which is crime, that is, drug trafficking, robbery and terrorism. This scenario provides a favorable background for an increased extreme mood, which later leads to escalation of the situation in countries neighboring Afghanistan, from China to Central Asia.
