adidas unveils new commercial featuring Timothée Chalamet, Messi and Bad Bunny
adidas has released a short film titled “Backyard Legends” dedicated to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The lead role in the commercial was played by Timothée Chalamet. According to the plot, his character gathers football stars Jude Bellingham, Lamine Yamal and Trinity Rodman to defeat an unbeatable neighborhood team.
The ad also features Lionel Messi, Raphinha, Pedri, Florian Wirtz, Ousmane Dembélé, Santiago Giménez and Bad Bunny. The video also includes references to Zinedine Zidane, Alessandro Del Piero and David Beckham.
The commercial was directed by Australian filmmaker Mark Molloy.
“When I was a kid, I dreamed of competing with these guys. I used to play football at Pier 40, imagining Beckham’s free kicks, Del Piero’s goals and Zidane’s moves while creating my own versions of them. I truly love this game, so working on a project like this with adidas has been an incredible experience for me,” Chalamet said.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19. For the first time in history, the tournament will be hosted by three countries simultaneously — United States, Canada and Mexico.
