The film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” may return to cinemas with additional scenes. Deadline reported this, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the publication, the extended version of the film is expected to include new material, including a scene featuring Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. The actress previously revealed that she had filmed scenes for the movie, but her appearance was ultimately cut from the final version.
Claire Temple is a familiar character to Marvel fans. Dawson portrayed her in the series “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones”, “Iron Fist”, “Luke Cage” and “The Defenders”.
An official re-release date has not yet been announced. According to Deadline, Sony may choose a period with fewer major releases to bring the film back to cinemas, including in premium formats.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently the highest-grossing film in Sony’s history. Its worldwide box office has reached $2.495 billion, surpassing the $1.92 billion earned by the 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
The possibility of a re-release comes amid renewed interest in theatrical re-releases following the success of “Avengers: Endgame”. Its re-release earned $86 million worldwide during its opening weekend, bringing its total box office to $2.885 billion.
Despite this, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remains about $389.7 million behind “Avengers: Endgame” in worldwide box office revenue.
