Aamir Khan and Arundhati Roy Projects to Be Featured at the 17th London Indian Film Festival

The 17th edition of the London Indian Film Festival, taking place from July 9 to 19 across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, and Bradford, has unveiled an exciting program for cinema enthusiasts.

One of the festival’s highlights will be a special appearance by renowned Indian actor and producer Aamir Khan. He is set to meet fans and participate in a discussion at BFI Southbank in London on July 16. The event is being organized to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, the Oscar-nominated film in which Khan played the lead role. The film will also be screened at BFI IMAX on July 12.

The festival will open on July 9 with the European premiere of 52 Blue. Directed by Egyptian filmmaker Ali El Arabi, the film stars Indian actors Adil Hussain and Neha Dhupia in leading roles.

On July 11, the cast of the popular BBC comedy show Goodness Gracious Me will reunite on stage after many years. Expected to attend are Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal, Nina Wadia, Kulvinder Ghir, and one of the show’s creators, Anil Gupta.

Another major attraction of the festival will be the U.K. premiere of the restored version of In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones. Directed by Pradip Krishen, the film was written by acclaimed Indian author and Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy.

Originally released in 1989, the cult classic will be presented to audiences in a newly restored 4K version. The film also features one of the earliest screen appearances of Shah Rukh Khan, who later became one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.

The festival will also host several international premieres. These include In Search of the Sky by director Jitank Singh Gurjar, as well as the Bangladeshi films Master by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit and Roid by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, which will be screened for British audiences for the first time.

This year’s London Indian Film Festival brings together some of the finest works of South Asian cinema, offering audiences the opportunity to meet celebrated filmmakers and discover new films from across the region.
