One of the main goals of Tajikistan’s transport development program is to strengthen the country’s position as a transit point between Central Asia

The trend of development of new logistics routes in Tajikistan leads to an increase in demand for multimodal transportation.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport of the Republic Azim Ibrohim during the international conference “New Silk Road”.

It is noted that the main reason for the great interest in multimodal transport is its ability to solve problems associated with the limitations of one mode of transport.

“If cargo cannot be transported directly over long distances using only one type of transport, then multimodal transportation combines several types of transport to deliver the goods to their destination,” explained the head of the ministry.

According to him, to develop this system it is necessary:

develop a unified strategy for the development of multimodal transport centers;

conduct effective assessments of demand and capacity for each route;

predict technical capabilities.

In addition, Azim Ibrohim said that one of the main goals of Tajikistan’s transport development program is to strengthen the country’s position as a transit point between Central Asia, China, the Middle East and Europe.

Thus, the head of the Republic’s Ministry of Transport emphasized that regional systems will be effective if various types of transport develop steadily.

“One of the main tasks of each region is to create a unified network of multimodal centers, including national, interregional and international ones,” he is convinced.

It is necessary to establish effective multimodal logistics to ensure faster delivery of goods between countries and continents, concluded Azim Ibrohim.

Earlier, the Statistics Agency of Tajikistan named the regions that are leaders in cargo transportation.

Thus, over 8 months of 2023, more than 7 million tons of cargo were transported by road. This accounts for 94.4% of the total volume of cargo transportation of all types of transport.

Accordingly, the flow of transportation by motor transport, compared to January-August 2022, increased by 14.0%, the Statistics Agency stated.

In addition, more than 4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail in Tajikistan.

This figure exceeds last year’s by 11.5%, the agency concluded.
