A strong earthquake occurred in Gorno-Badakhshan

An earthquake was recorded in the Darvaz region of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

This was reported by specialists of the Republican Center for Seismic Predictive Monitoring of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan.

Earthquakes of magnitude 4.4 were registered at 05:29 local time (00:29 GMT)

The epicenter of the oscillations was at a depth of 15 km.

The exact coordinates of the earthquake were: 38.53 degrees north latitude; 70.59 degrees east longitude.

The Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense has not yet reported any consequences, including nothing known if people were injured.

Meanwhile, a representative of the CoES said earlier that the situation in the Sarez Lake area, located in the seismically active zone of the Tajik Pamir, remains stable, although the total number of tremors in this zone has increased.

At the same time, in Tajikistan, increased attention is paid to the seismic resistance of buildings. After the tragedy that occurred in Turkey and Afghanistan in February 2023, when almost 60 thousand people died as a result of the earthquake, experts assessed the condition of the houses in Dushanbe, Khujand and Bokhtar.
