A proposal has been made to increase bus and metro fares in Tashkent starting October 1st. A draft decision to this effect is currently under public review.
Under the proposal, the cash fare for buses and the metro would be 3,000 soums, while a single electronic payment would cost 2,500 soums (reflecting a discount). Daily, weekly, and monthly fare plans would also be established for transport card users. For instance, the proposed monthly rate is 250,000 soums for buses and 345,000 soums for combined bus and metro use.
In a statement regarding the fare hike, the Ministry of Transport explained that current fares cover only a portion of the costs associated with maintaining and operating public transport. The state budget currently covers the majority of the remaining expenses.
According to the Ministry, the fare adjustment must be accompanied by stricter requirements regarding service regularity, the technical condition and cleanliness of vehicles, passenger safety, and overall service quality.
Discounts for transfers to other routes within one hour using a transport card—including options for free transfers in certain cases—will remain in effect. The draft decision is open for public discussion until September 19.
