The state-owned company plans to launch a high-speed highway from Tashkent to Samarkand.
The first deputy chairman of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari, Hikmatulla Rakhmetov, told Spot at the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum about plans to build a high-speed highway from Tashkent to Samarkand.
"We are now talking not only with the World Bank, we are now talking with many other international financial institutions, as well as with other interested investors about building a separate highway for high-speed trains from Tashkent to Samarkand," he said.
In October, the leadership of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari discussed with The World Bank has a project to increase the speed on railways from 250 to 300 km/h.
In the future, the state-owned company plans to extend the highway beyond Samarkand, which will be used only for high-speed trains.
"Now we have one highway — there are two on some section, but basically it is one - and today we use this highway to transport both passengers by high—speed transport, and high-speed, and conventional, as well as freight transportation sit on this highway, so there is simply not enough infrastructure for today day," shared Rakhmetov.
The draft strategy "Uzbekistan-2030" It is planned to build new high-speed highways between Tashkent and Samarkand, as well as Navoi and Bukhara, which will increase the speed of transportation by 2.5 times.
