A man in Turkey was detained for circulating an AI-generated image featuring Erdoğan.

In Ankara, Turkey, 53-year-old Mehmet Çakmak was arrested for sharing AI-generated images on his WhatsApp status.
Reportedly, he shared images on WhatsApp in which he had superimposed his own photo alongside pictures of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Justice Minister Akın Gürlek.
According to investigators, Çakmak is suspected of attempting to portray himself as an influential figure with close ties to high-ranking officials. He was arrested at his home in Ankara’s Keçiören district. Çakmak reportedly has prior convictions for four separate offenses.
He is currently under investigation for attempting to exert influence and for disseminating false information capable of causing public panic or confusion.
